History of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church
The following was written by Wanda Rhodes

Pleasant Valley Baptist Church was organized in
1850.  The Pleasant Valley Baptist Church is
located in the Pleasant Valley Community on
Highway 151, Ooltewah Ringgold Road.  The
original church was across the railroad about a
mile south of the present location on what is
known as the Lovinggood farm.  In the late
1920's a new one-room church was built next to
the Pleasant Valley School on property given to
the church by Jim Kittle.  Later, Sunday School
rooms were added and this building remained
until 1967.  The present church was built in
1967 on the adjoining land, purchased from
Gertrude Miller Liner.

Some of the former pastors were Hamilton
Cummings, James Suddeth, Fred Gregg, P.S.
Woody, Garfield Cavin, Willie Kinsey, Lamar
Parker, Buddy Mathis, Willie Bearden, Alvin
Junior Bryson who served the church as pastor
for 44 years, and our current pastor is David
Flood.

Throughout the years, God has called pastors, missionaries, and teachers from this congregation
to preach His Word.  Some of them were Luther Bell, Howard Bell, John Bell, Paul Dedmon, John L.
Harris, Luther Peters, Virgil Peters, David H. Orr, Allen Pack, Donald Self, Calvin Headrick, Wayne
Lindsey, Curtis Stapp, Ralph Long, Richard Comer, Joe Geddes, Chip Sellew, Bill Millard and
Mickey Headrick.  Many young preachers and missionaries have been encouraged by the love and
prayers of this church family.

The vision of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church is missions, foreign and home, as they minister to a
hurting world through the gospel of Jesus Christ for His glory alone.
